Low moments in motherhood

Some days you know you're just not being a good mom.

You know, those days when your child has shoved yet another toy or book under the sofa and is screaming because she can't reach it. And you bend down to retrieve it only to bash your knee on the coffee table. And it's all you can do to not shout obscenities so instead you toss the book across the room.

Or when your child is cranky and decides that it's really fun to pinch you- hard. When you pull her hand away, she simply swoops in with her second hand. So you hold both her little hands and try to tell her calmly that "no, we don't pinch Mommy". She responds by screaming. And it's all you can do to not shout obscenities so instead you plunk her down on the floor, probably not as gently and lovingly as you might usually do it.

Or when your child is overly exhausted because she refused to take a second (sorely needed) nap. And it's bedtime. And she's screaming. She doesn't want to be down and play. She doesn't want to be in your lap. She doesn't want to be in her room at all. And it's all you can do to not shout obscenities so you simply force your crying child to stay in your arms until she finally cries herself to sleep.

You know... those days....

*sigh*

Ahhh. Sorry your day was so bad. As a Mother of a 14 year old, one day you will look back on today and wish you could hold them in your arms and make them fall asleep. Ha, I sound like my Mother. :)

oh yeah, I know those days for sure! you are not alone, sister.

hang in there - somehow the munchkins never seem to remember these moments of "mommy failure" and they are a much bigger deal for us!

I have so been there. The good thing is they always love us in the morning.

Oh boy, do I feel ya, Katie! Hang in there... I keep reminding myself that one day the fake crying, blood-curdling screaming (cause, ya know, they think it's funny, or they're mad, or whatever), and the intentional ignoring of the word "no" will subside... one day. :-) In the meantime, I've sooooo been there with the biting my tongue, counting to ten, and whatever else. Call or email me anytime if you want to talk!

Hugs...Since I'm a few days late at commenting, here's hoping you've had some better days since then.

Katie,
Having an 18mo old boy, and another on the way all too soon (I might add), I can tell you I have called my mom crying to tell her what a horrible mom I was. And she reminds me that I'm not, and we all have our days, just like the kiddos. And no matter what, they love us again within minutes. Be kind to yourself, being a mom is HARD and you are doing fantastic!
